Simple Soda Bread
A simple bread recipe inspired by a Jamie Oliver recipe with our own Yorkshire Rapeseed Oil twist of course! This recipe makes the most of storecupboard ingredients and we use our full flavoured Yorkshire Rapeseed Oil with Cracked Black Pepper. We are lucky enough to have local suppliers J. Stringer & Sons on our doorstep to provide freshly milled flour and oats.
This soda bread is perfect served warm with butter, or a wedge of cheese. It's also a favourite alongside a bowl of warming soup!
INGREDIENTS
1½ cups plain flour
1½ cups wholemeal flour
1½ cups milk
1 tsp baking soda
½ tsp salt
1 tsp sugar
1 tbsp Yorkshire Rapeseed Oil with Cracked Black Pepper plus more to rub
Oats to finish
METHOD
Put all the ingredients into a large bowl and then bring together to form a dough. Shape into a round loaf shape about 6-7 inches thick and pop on a baking tray.
Brush the surface of the dough with oil (We used our Yorkshire Rapeseed Oil with Black Pepper for this one but any of our oils would be ideal).
Dust with a sprinkling of oats and then cut a cross in the top.
Bake in a hot oven (190C) until the bottom sounds hollow when you tap it, should take around an hour.
