Best Ever Christmas Dinner Hacks

Christmas is such a busy time for everyone, but particularly those cooks in the house. We’ve always tried to keep the big day stress-free, and approach our Christmas Dinner as a normal Sunday Roast, with a few little extra treats.

But here’s the clever thing, you can use our delicious products to make your Christmas Dinner a super simple affair! And for the first time we are going to share our very own Christmas Dinner hacks with you. Each designed to take the stress out of cooking, and ensure the main event is delicious for all!

A Simple Start

What could be easier and more impressive than a Seafood Salad starter? We love to start off proceedings with a Posh Prawn Cocktail, and whether you choose prawns, scallops, salmon or crab, just pile up your favourites in a beautiful glass individual serving dish, and add our Yorkshire Mayonnaise with Lemon to give it a wonderful zing! Get ready for the compliments!

Pimp Your Sprouts

Out with the steamed or boiled sprouts. We know they are not a favourite with everyone, but for us it’s tradition that they are on the Christmas Dinner plate! Serve them whole, or chopped and stir-fried in a little of our Oak Smoked Yorkshire Rapeseed Oil, with pancetta or chestnuts (or indeed both!).

The Best Ever Crispy Roast Potatoes

This we can guarantee! Our range of Yorkshire Rapeseed Oils are perfect for roasting. It’s because of the smoke point of this ever-versatile oil, that means that it can reach a very high temperature before the oil spoils.

Once your potatoes have boiled, drain them, and using the lid to stop them falling out, swirl the potatoes around and fluff up the spuds outer shell. This ‘roughing up’ helps them get deliciously crispy as they cook.

Whether you choose to roast them in our Yorkshire Rapeseed Oil with Garlic, or our Yorkshire Rapeseed Oil with Rosemary & Sea Salt, each will crisp up your roasties perfectly!

Perfect Parsnips

We love the earthy taste of this winter root veg, and they pair perfectly with our Honey & Mustard Dressing. Simply toss them in this made in Yorkshire Dressing before roasting, and you’ll be hooked! The simplest way to add flavour without a fuss.

Get Stuffed!

We’re just too busy at Christmas to make our own Stuffing, so we take a packet of Jolly Good Stuffing from Gordon Rhodes, add in some sausage meat or some crumbled, cooked chestnuts (also from a packet!), and spoon in some Yorkshire Mustard Mayonnaise to bind the mix, and add another layer of flavour!

No Bland Veggies Here!

For the perfect flavour pairing for our Red Cabbage side, we rely on our sister brand, Charlie & Ivy’s, and a bottle of their Blackberry, Thyme & Balsamic Bread Dipper (find it on our website!). We sauté our cabbage in this Bread Dipper, along with some sloe gin from Sloemotion Distillery, with a good bit of seasoning and a teaspoon of light brown sugar, before cooking it low and slow. Alternatively, sauté the cabbage with a good drizzle of our Yorkshire Rapeseed Oil, along with a little tipple of port. Well, ‘tis the season!

The Controversial Side!

Yes, it’s a Yorkshire Pudding! We 100% agree that it belongs on our Christmas Dinner table, so let’s make them perfect! Once again, it’s the high smoke point of our Yorkshire Rapeseed Oil that makes them rise so, and ensure that pillowy soft centre and crisp outer! Follow our Yorkshire Pudding Recipe, and make the batter in advance and keep in the fridge, or indeed make your puddings before the big day, and freeze them. They’ll just take a few minutes to warm through in the oven. Simple!

Gorgeous Gravy

We love a dash of our Dijon & Black Pepper Dressing in our gravy (homemade or not, we don’t judge!), particularly if a joint of beef is the star of the Christmas Day main. It adds a delicious depth of flavour that can’t be beaten.

The Main Feature

Whether you choose turkey or not, quality is absolutely key when comes to the main feature of the Christmas Dinner! Choosing British is simple, and we choose local too. For turkey, we’d look to Herb-Fed Poultry, and Soanes Poultry’s Cockerels are a great alternative. If you choose beef, Warrendale Wagyu is the place to choose your favourite cut of beef for the Christmas table. Our ever-versatile Yorkshire Rapeseed Oils range will help you out when using as a rub on the turkey or cockerel skin, and frying or roasting your beef cut.

Sweet Treat

At Christmas we always have plenty of cheese, figs and nuts for sharing, and always a good bottle of Sloemotion Sloe Gin, and they all come in a treat when putting together our Boozy Fig & Yorkshire Blue Stacked Sponges. An impressive looking treat to end the meal, and are deliciously light too. Get ahead and make the sponges with our Yorkshire Rapeseed Oil, and a simple one bowl method, and simply stack these moist sponges before serving! No need for a cheeseboard! One less course to offer up to your guests!
