Easter Days Out in Yorkshire
For us, Easter feels like a real celebration of the start of spring. Spending time with family, enjoying some sunshine (hopefully!) and indulging in some delicious food.
Yorkshire hosts such a wide range of activities and beautiful places to visit, so we wanted to recommend a few places to go with your loved ones to make the most of the long weekend and the longer days!
Fountains Abbey – Ripon, North Yorkshire
The ancient ruins of Fountains Abbey, teamed with an awe-inspiring water garden and deer park, provides a picturesque and beautiful day out. This magnificent abbey was established by monks in 1132 and was a religious site for over 400 years until Henry VIII’s Dissolution of the Monasteries.
Over time, the abbey was stripped down, leaving the imposing ruins you can see today. Surrounding the abbey is a stunning water garden. This outstanding example of the English garden style of the 18th century led to the site being granted UNESCO World Heritage status in 1986.
Throughout the Easter holidays the abbey is hosting an Easter egg hunt. Crafts, games and competitions as well as acres of space to explore make this the perfect Easter day out for families.
Made in Whitby Easter Festival – Whitby, North Yorkshire
Made in Whitby brings together creative business owners who source and make locally distinctive products in Whitby. Their Festivals, which take place in July, December and Easter, are hosted beside the iconic Whitby abbey. These festivals exhibit the skills, ingenuity, and creative spirit of the local businesses and are sure to be a memorable day out.
The Easter festival runs from the 3rd to the 6th of April, with stalls showcasing crafts, bakes, drinks, and entertainment.
Sewerby Hall and Gardens – Bridlington, East Yorkshire
Originally built in the early 1700s, Grade I listed Sewerby Hall is a beautiful house set directly on the East Yorkshire coastline. With a laundry list of things to do around the house, the hall makes an ideal day out for people of all ages. Walk round the gardens, visit the on-site zoo, take a trip on the land train, or head down to the beach.
Sewerby is also hosting several Easter themed events, including medieval jousting on Easter Sunday!

There are 4 additional exhibitions running throughout the Easter period so whatever your taste, there will be something for you! Alongside the sculpture park the site hosts a café, restaurant, play area, and of course, a gift shop where you can pick up a souvenir.
Leeds Young Film Festival – Leeds, West Yorkshire

The festival also offers workshops, masterclasses and other hands-on activities to inspire and develop young talent.
Over the Easter Weekend, LYFF is taking over two cinemas, offering tickets at discounted prices and bringing along some special guests and experiences.

Situated in the heart of Tupgill Park, The Forbidden Corner is a tourist attraction that is quite hard to describe! Made up of a labyrinth of paths, tunnels, chambers, follies and surprises, this wonderful attraction is fun for an adventure at any age.
The surrounding Tupgill Park is a beautiful setting for such a unique place, and the Forbidden Corner is embracing the magical atmosphere of the forest with a Dragon Egg Easter Quest running from the 3rd to the 5th of April. This would certainly be an Easter to remember!
