Charity 2019 - They want your vote!

Charity 2019 - They want your vote!

Each year we embark on a series of different fundraising ideas on behalf of a chosen local charity, and in 2018 we raised valuable funds for the wonderful Our BOYs Fund via the Children's Cancer and Leukaemia Group (CCLG). We couldn’t not support this amazing local boy who fought his way through a rare renal cancer and his fabulous Mum who set up this fund on his behalf to help fund research into kinder childhood cancer treatments. We took on some crazy challenges that tested our fitness and also launched a Limited Edition Yorkshire Rapeseed Oil Lime Oil and gifted a percentage of the proceeds for one year. At the same time raising awareness of childhood cancers as a whole.

We will always be in awe of the whole family's bravery and it was our pleasure to support them as they keep on pushing for a cure.

This year is no different and we intend to do the very same! But this time we needed the help of our followers! Our first step was to put out a shout out on social media for nominations for a Yorkshire charity close to their hearts and boy did they deliver! We were totally overwhelmed by the response and had over 900 people get involved! We were inundated with a huge number of worthy suggestions from which we needed to form a shortlist of just three! A great undertaking when each and every passionate nomination supported a Yorkshire charity that anyone would love to support.

We’ve now taken some time to look at each and every nomination, with each one a worthy and deserving cause based in Yorkshire and we’ve found our three shortlisted charities. Our next step is to hand it back to our followers. We need you to get in touch via social media and let us know which of the three charities you’d like us to support in 2019. Here’s some information on how they help and support the people of Yorkshire.

NICE 2B NICE is a Hull based charity working as part of the Life for a Kid Foundation - Set up nearly 5 years ago its aim is to help children in need in the Hull and East-Riding area through four services and to date has helped hundreds of children and their families.
Financial support - Providing children with the specialist equipment they need to lead a better quality of life either buying outright the equipment they need or supporting families with their fundraising.
Surprise Days - Aimed at the terminally ill or those most in need of a smile our Surprise Days are fun filled days making dreams come true.
Respite and holiday home - Our holiday home is called Phoebes Lodge, a static caravan based on the award winning Patrington Haven Leisure Park site. Provided free of charge to those that need a break from the relentless treatments they go through at home or a break away from hospital life. Phoebes Lodge is about making memories and spending some quality time together as a family.
Animal therapy - Our Therapy dog (Lewis) is registered at Hull Royal Infirmary and visits the children’s wards on a weekly basis to provide comfort and support to all the children in what is a scary environment for them.
We can’t do any of the work we do without people’s support, so thank you for nominating us.

RYEDALE SPECIAL FAMILIES is an independent Malton based charity. We support children and young adults with disabilities, illness and additional needs, as well as their families or carers, by providing information, advice and guidance, social groups, flexible care as well as a wide range of family activities.
What began life in the early 1990’s as 20 families of disabled children meeting in each other’s homes, has evolved to become a charity which now has over 40 staff and a host of volunteers.
Now in our 21st year, we support over 400 Ryedale based families through our diverse range of services, but the demands on our resources are ever growing. To continue our work we need to raise in excess of £100,000 each and every year.
In addition, this year we launched our ‘Get a move on’ campaign to raise an additional £100,000 as deposit towards a new home. We have quite literally outgrown our current premises which is restricting the services we can provide, and although we unbelievably have reached this target already, we continue to raise more so that the mortgage on our new premises, once we find them, can be kept to a minimum.
Our move to new premises will enable us to continue to develop the range of services we can offer for the next 20 years and more!

SASH - Georgie was made homeless on Christmas Eve. Stevie was forced out of the family home after a lifetime of abuse at age 16. Matt had cared for his Mum and younger sister throughout his short 16 years and wasn’t able to take anymore. Life prospects for all of these young people could have been bleak.
Thanks to our fantastic volunteers all three are now in a safe, warm home being supported by volunteer Hosts who have a spare room and will to help.
We expect to help 330 young people escape from homelessness throughout North and East Yorkshire this year. The majority are aged just 16-18 and most are in this situation because of a family break-up, suffering abuse or leaving care. Some have been through all three.
With the help of our kind volunteers and the generosity of the community we can stop a potentially ongoing cycle of homelessness. Your support can help ensure no young person ever has to face homelessness again.
